Group Presentation Reflection

Presentation Reflection

For our first assignment of the semester, the class was divided amongst three groups and every group was given a chapter based on the professors Sinkoff choice. We were asked to create a presentation based on the chapter that you received, we had complete creative freedom, no rubric was placed for this assignment. It was an interesting assignment as we all had so much freedom in how we chose to pursue the project. The three chapters presented were 3, 9, and 10. Based on the three presentations there where many details that I noticed as an audience and as a presenter myself.

Group 1

Chapter 3 was given and presented by group 1, the topic was intercultural communication. Group 1 presented their project effortlessly. They divided the sections amongst everyone and paired up with each other to complete specific sections. Their presentation had to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing presentations out of the three, they provided many visuals and little words. When each person would present they all sounded like they had researched their topic and knew exactly the information that they were presented to the class. The only downside to their presentation is that many of the presenters put in videos with their slides and it cut down the time for a lot of others. Towards the end of the class, I noticed that the presenters were speeding up a little because they were in a tough time crunch. Group 1 did a wonderful job, I would just advise them to talk before the presentation to review how long each person will be presenting so everyone has time to go through their sections.
Group 2

C
ommunication in groups is the topic that surrounds chapter 9, group 2 was assigned to this section of the project. I would say that they truly embodied the information tha
t they were presenting, the entire group seemed to be on the same page. Some presenters did tend to read directly from the screen and not add any more details than the one displayed. Group 2 was the group that played the most videos, even though videos are highly encouraged it is always best to keep them short and sweet if it takes time away from other presenters. I also think it's very primitive that the entire group is there in the presentation, it creates an awkward tension in the class when someone does not join the class for their own presentation. Groups should communicate 15 minutes before class to ensure that everyone is up and ready to present.

Group 3

The last group presented chapter 10, group leadership, and problem-solving, this was the group that I was apart of. My group and I were always in constant contact to make sure that everyone was doing their
part of the assignment, no one was ever left out. One thing that my group did do incorrectly was we did not turn on our cameras during the presentation. One person didn't do it and it sort of created a ripple effect to all of us. We know that it is important for your audience to see you while you're presenting because if not your nothing but just a voice. When you give the audience a visual image of the presenter they can tell how the presenter may feel about the topic and if they truly know the material that they are covering or are they just reading off a notepad. I will ensure that my group turns on their cameras for the upcoming project.
This presentation was the beginning of many to come, as we advance in the course and gain more confidence I believe that everyone enrolled in the course will be a master presenter.
